The easiest to grow and most adaptable of all hydrangeas. Unlike other hydrangeas, paniculatas may be grown in full sun if they receive adequate moisture. A desirable trait of all paniculatas is their tolerance for pruning. One can prune them at any time except when they begin forming bloom heads in the summer. The paniculata is the ONLY hydrangea that can be pruned into a tree form. Panicle hydrangeas bloom on new wood - in other words, they create their flower buds for the year only after they've begun to leaf out in spring. This means that they can be pruned without negatively impacting their bloom. Though pruning is not strictly necessary, it encourages stronger stems, better blooming, and an overall more attractive shape. Can grow 8-18' tall.
